We're going to introduce you now to a very importnat methodology acronym that that is central to all polluting activities, and that is the SPR model.SPR stands for Source, pathway and receptor.
Every polluting activity has a source whether it's smoke belllowing from an industrial plant, a leaking pipe or rubbish leaching into surroung soil.
In order for a pollutant to reach a place that it can harm, it has to have a pathway. Consider an oil tanker that has overturned on the motorway and is beginning to spill its load. The pathway upon which this pollutant would take would be
The receptor in this case would probably be nearby drains, streams or rivers and lakes, or land and if he oil were to catch fire air.
